The Possessed Humans

Once human souls, now twisted vessels for the endless hunger of Hell.

The Possessed Humans represent the tragic and terrifying transformation of ordinary individuals across the Doom universe who have been forcibly inhabited by demonic entities from Hell. Unlike the native demons that roam the infernal realms, these victims were once men and women—soldiers, scientists, civilians, and even high-ranking officials—who lost their free will to an invasive supernatural force. They serve as the primary foot soldiers of the demonic invasion on Earth and within the UAC facilities, acting as a bridge between the human world and the horrors of Hell.

Lore & Background

While some possessed humans retain a shred of their former humanity in fleeting moments of clarity, most are completely overwritten by the alien intelligence within. They range from mindless zombies shuffling through corridors to heavily armored soldiers wielding human weaponry with demonic fury. The tragedy lies in the total erasure of identity; a beloved colleague or a brave Marine can become a relentless enemy in seconds, driven solely by the instinct to spread corruption and feed on flesh.

In Their Own Story

The airlock hissed open, revealing a corridor that smelled of ozone and old blood. Dr. Vickers stood frozen, watching as the man in the UAC lab coat turned slowly toward him. It was Miller, his best friend for twenty years, but the eyes staring back were not human—they burned with an ancient, violet fire. 'Vickers,' Miller's voice rasped, a distorted echo of its former self, layered with a guttural growl that didn't belong to any throat on Earth. The lab coat tore at the shoulders as muscle and bone warped beneath the fabric. There was no plea for help in those eyes, only a hunger that had consumed everything Miller once was.

Reader's Guide

The primary goal of possessed humans is not strategic conquest in the traditional sense but rather the immediate spread of infection and the destabilization of human resistance from within. They act as the vanguard of Hell's invasion, often appearing before larger demonic forces to breach security perimeters. There is no formal hierarchy among the possessed; they are individually controlled by the specific demons inhabiting them or directed by a collective hive mind emanating from Hell itself. A possessed Marine might act with tactical precision while a possessed civilian acts on feral instinct, depending entirely on the strength and nature of the possessing entity. Their relationship to the central conflict is symbiotic yet parasitic. They are the physical manifestation of Hell's ability to corrupt Earth, turning humanity's own defenses against itself. The Doom Slayer views them not as enemies to be negotiated with, but as abominations that must be purged instantly to free the trapped souls and stop the spread of the infection.
