Lore & Background
The Hell Priests are three named demons—Deag Nilox, Deag Ranak, and Deag Grav—who serve the angelic Khan Maykr. They are directly involved in the invasion of Earth, which began in 2163, fourteen years after the events on Mars. The Doom Slayer's primary objective is to kill all three priests to stop the demonic invasion. After the Slayer kills Deag Nilox on Earth, the Khan Maykr transports the remaining two priests to unknown locations to protect them. The Slayer later finds and kills Deag Ranak at his citadel in the Arctic. The Khan Maykr then moves Deag Grav again and accelerates the invasion. With no leads on the last Hell Priest, the Slayer retrieves Dr. Hayden's damaged robot chassis and learns that Deag Grav is hiding on Sentinel Prime. The Slayer reaches Sentinel Prime and kills Deag Grav in the gladiatorial arena. The Khan Maykr then reveals her plan to resurrect the Icon of Sin to consume mankind.
In Their Own Story
The Doom Slayer teleports to Earth and kills Deag Nilox, but the Khan Maykr transports the two remaining priests to unknown locations. The Slayer finds and kills Deag Ranak at his citadel in the Arctic. In response, the Khan Maykr moves Deag Grav again and accelerates the invasion of Earth. With no leads on the last Hell Priest, VEGA suggests finding Dr. Hayden, who knows his location. At an ARC compound, the Slayer retrieves Hayden's damaged robot chassis and the demonic Crucible. Upon uploading Hayden's mind into the fortress, he reveals Deag Grav is hiding on Sentinel Prime; the only way to get there is a portal located in the lost city of Hebeth in Mars' core. The Slayer travels to the Martian moon Phobos, where he uses the BFG 10000 to shoot a hole in the surface of Mars to reach Hebeth. After reaching Sentinel Prime, flashbacks reveal the Slayer to be the original Doomguy. In the present, the Slayer finds and kills Deag Grav in the arena.
Reader's Guide
The Hell Priests are key targets in Doom Eternal's campaign. The player must kill all three: Deag Nilox, Deag Ranak, and Deag Grav. Deag Nilox is killed early on Earth. Deag Ranak is found at his citadel in the Arctic. Deag Grav is hiding on Sentinel Prime, accessible only through a portal in the lost city of Hebeth in Mars' core. To reach Hebeth, the player must use the BFG 10000 on Phobos to shoot a hole in Mars' surface. The player should be prepared for the Khan Maykr to move the priests to protect them, requiring the player to find new leads. The Slayer's fortress, controlled by the AI VEGA, and Dr. Hayden's knowledge are crucial for locating the remaining priests.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the Hell Priests in the reboot era?
They serve as high-ranking demonic commanders within the Hell hierarchy, distinct from standard infantry or resurrection specialists like the Arch-Vile. These robed figures act as strategic leaders rather than mere combatants during invasions.
What are their primary powers and roles?
Their main function involves conducting dark rituals to maintain dimensional rifts and summon reinforcements for the invasion forces. They coordinate lesser demons through arcane manipulation instead of relying solely on physical strength.
How do Hell Priests engage in combat?
These enemies wield magical staves to cast spells and manage their surroundings, focusing on crowd control rather than direct melee attacks. Their presence usually indicates a need for the Slayer to disrupt their ceremonies before engaging other threats.
Where are these demons most commonly encountered?
You will typically find them guarding sacred shrines or overseeing major incursion points within Hell and Earth invasion zones. They rarely wander alone, preferring secure locations where they can perform their duties uninterrupted.
Why is spotting a Hell Priest significant for the Doom Slayer?
Their appearance signals that demonic coordination has peaked in that area, marking it as a high-threat zone requiring immediate attention. Eliminating them often disrupts enemy reinforcements and weakens the overall assault on human defenses.
